Through gentle touches which are applied at certain Spinal Gateways, the brain can be trained to create better connections with the body and, in particular, the spine. Because of this revitalization of the relationship between the brain and the nervous system, Network Care can empower you to use the energy built up in spinal tension to actually fuel and benefit the healing process.

What can Network Care do for you?

International Volunteering: Healing The World – Healing Yourself

“Some travel to see the difference. Others travel to be the difference.”
~Unknown

About ten years ago I was at work, staring at my computer, eating yet another, bland, microwaved Lean Cuisine lunch at my desk. And then my life changed with the click of a button. I was searching the web for something to hold my attention and stumbled upon an article about a woman.

A woman I wanted to be. She had decided to travel the world and volunteer with animals. image1 She had landed in Africa. And volunteered with lions. Several months later … I was doing the same thing.

International volunteering comes in all shapes and sizes. You don’t have to hang out with ferocious lions. You can teach English, play sports with kids, conduct environmental research and yes, hang out with wild animals. The possibilities are virtually endless.

What you do need to do is make the decision. Do your research. Buy your plane ticket. And get out there. Life is short. People and the environment and the animals need your help. But it’s really up to you to pull the proverbial trigger.

So what has to happen for this dream of yours to become reality? Read the rest

What is HeartMath?

what is heartmath

“The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe,
to match your nature with Nature.”
~Joseph Campbell

A Dynamic Window into the Autonomic Nervous System

You may have heard of HeartMath®, but did you ever wonder what is or try to explain it someone else? Or perhaps HeartMath® and the concept of heart coherence is new to you altogether. This short article will explore what HeartMath® is (more broadly Heart Rate Variability biofeedback) and how a HeartMath® centered practice can support healing, personal growth, and inner transformation.

HeartMath® is a research and technology institute that focuses on mastering the harmful effects of stress through the power of the human heart, and what it calls “heart coherence”. Physiological coherence, in general, is the synchronization of all the oscillating fields within and outside the body—simply think of it as Joseph Campbell explains in the above quote: we are syncing our heartbeats with the heartbeat of the universe.

The weaker fields within the body (i.e. brain waves, respiration) will align with the stronger field of the heart. Electro-magnetic fields nesting within resonating elects-magnetic fields. It is a moment of tao, all is aligned with the great oneness … Read the rest

Energy Healing 101

“The whole universe appears as a dynamic web of inseparable energy patterns…

Thus we are not separated parts of a whole. We are a Whole.”

~Barbara Ann Brennan

Along with your vascular, nervous, and skeletal systems, you also have an energetic system that is, like all energy, invisible to the naked eye. Your energetic system, or subtle body is like a holographic overlay on your physical body and is made up of power centers (chakras), energetic fields (auras), and conduits (nadis). Information about your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual states live within your subtle body.

Energy healing works in this realm. It is a general term for many modalities that remove blocks and energetic cords attached to others, grounds your energetic system to Earth energy, connects to light energy, repairs any energy leaks within the auric field or chakra system, and disconnects from any energy that is not your own.

If you are wondering why any of this matters, it is blocks within the energetic system that manifest as illness in the physical body.

Evidence of energy healing practices dating back 1000s of years is found in cultures throughout the world. The ancient Egyptians practiced Sekhem. a form of energy … Read the rest

What is EFT and How Does it Work?

finger touching hand

“EFT offers great healing benefits.”
~Deepak Chopra

Along time ago, after a severe traumatic event, I began suffering from panic attacks and developed severe, chronic anxiety. The side effects included averaging 2-3 hours of sleep a night, becoming destructively low functioning in my work life and having rapid heartbeats and stomach pains become the replacement for my morning alarm clock.

Thus began my journey to find a way to calm my nervous system down and get back into the driver’s seat of my life. This journey took me over 10 years. Against the wishes of therapists and physicians, I refused to start taking anti-anxiety meds, sleeping pills or anti-depressants. Instead, I tried almost every alternative therapy that I knew of. I wanted to walk through the fire to get to the other side instead of pretending the fire inside me wasn’t there.

One day, during an annual lunch with some girlfriends, one of them starting talking about Tapping. I asked some questions and then went home to do some research. Two weeks later I had an appointment with a local EFT Practitioner and went without any expectation or preconceived assumptions about how it might help me. I had learned years … Read the rest

The Gift of Astrology – Guidance from the Stars and Planets

“Astrology is a language. If you understand this language, the sky speaks to you.”
~Dane Rudhyar

Astrology is our most ancient science and art dating back thousands of years. All around the world, ancient cultures have used the stars and movements of the planets to gain guidance.

planet mashupBeginning about 400 BCE, the first horoscope was developed. Until the past few hundred years, astrology was valued by almost all cultures. Most of our ancient myths are based on the movements of the planets and how they speak to our experiences on Earth. It is only in the last few hundred years, that we have separated ourselves from the wisdom of the sky and felt that we humans could understand ourselves as separate from the energies of the Earth and sky.

We are now rediscovering through quantum physics what was known in ancient wisdom traditions; everything is energy and everything is interconnected. We live in a holographic universe. The macrocosm reflects the microcosm. The movements of the planets and stars are mirrored in the energies on the Earth. With this understanding, there has been a resurgence and renewal of interest in astrology.

The gift of astrology is that we can gain guidance … Read the rest

What is the Feldenkrais Method®? How it Works

“Feldenkrais work is the most sophisticated and effective method I have ever seen
for the prevention and reversal of deterioration of function.”

~Margaret Mead, PhD, Anthropologist

I began studying the Feldenkrais Method® in 1984, after seeking every possible treatment (Osteopathic, Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, various Massage therapies, Rolfing, Cranial Sacral, Acupunctureannie thoe w patient, etc.) for chronic, debilitating knee pain. I couldn’t walk, hike, bike or swim without pain. In one lesson, I experienced a profound shift in the alignment and coordination of my legs with my entire body. While it took me a while to shift the pattern causing this pain, over the three decades in studying this Method, I continue to refine the ease in my movement and life. This was the beginning of my career in bodywork and awareness study. I use this method (along with Nature Awareness) to help expand awareness to move past obstacles in learning, healing, performance and problem-solving.

dr feldenkraisThe Feldenkrais Method® named after its founder, Moshe Feldenkrais, is a sensory method of learning to refine one’s movement, improve function and expand awareness. Feldenkrais developed his method in the mid-1940s after suffering a crippling knee injury. He found he could teach himself (and others) to align, … Read the rest

HypnoBirthing®, The Mongan Method

“When you change the way your view birth, the way you birth will change”
~Marie Mongan

Empowering Women to Connect to Their Natural Instinctive Birthing Bodies

Have you ever heard these types of statements?

  • Giving birth is painful
  • It’s something you just have to get through
  • Labor and childbirth is not something to look forward to
  • You don’t need to tough it out. Just take the drugs
  • It’d be great to just be knocked out and wake up with a baby

The women I teach in my HypnoBirthing®, The Mongan Method childbirth education classes, tell me they sure have! They hear these types of disempowering statements from well intentioned friends, family and even complete strangers. They find it interesting how people will readily share their “horror” stories when they see a pregnant woman!

Just like the majority of us, they’ve seen the movies that portray childbirth as extremely painful or comical and something to dread.

Anticipating pain and dreading bringing your baby into the world doesn’t sound like a great way to spend nine months! Yet, too often, this is the mass message that permeates our culture. It produces fear, stress and anxiety in expectant moms. This can often lead … Read the rest

On the Quest for Purpose

“Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself
and know that everything in this life has a purpose.”

~   Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Finding true purpose is a challenge that plagues most people throughout their lives. Well…that is being kind, perhaps, because there are plenty who really never give it a thought and just walk through life doing what is acceptable or necessary. They don’t inquire, step out of line, make waves, take a chance, or dance like nobody is watching. They keep their heads down, and don’t take risks.

Is this you? I don’t think so.

You, on the other hand, are more aware and curious. You suspect there is something missing and desire more out of your life than the status quo. You have that nagging sense about something that needs to be discovered. Something more, something deeper.

Your friends and family may consider you successful because you have chosen a suitable career. Yet, in the quiet moments of your life, you ponder the lingering question about whether this is really the correct path that leads to fulfilling the goals and higher purpose that were a part of the deal your soul promised when incarnating into this lifetime.… Read the rest

Is a Cleanse a Sprint or a Marathon?

“I choose to make the rest of my life the best of my life”
~Louise Hay

Cleanse. Detox. Fast. It seems that every health magazine, blog and infomercial is hawking their own version. They can range from popping pills or drinking a liquid concoction to eating whole foods and eliminating a list of ingredients.

veggies on a forkIs this the latest money-making gimmick, or is there merit in doing one? It’s worth your while to take a closer look.

Domino Effect

We are exposed to far too many toxins or irritants in our daily life, including many of the things we eat. These can take their toll on our health. Take a mental stroll through your daily routine:

  • processed foods
  • conventional meats
  • genetically modified foods
  • artificial ingredients
  • caffeine and alcohol
  • skin care products
  • cleaning products
  • tap water
  • work environment
  • cell phones, computers and other electronics
  • air, both inside and outside
  • toxic thoughts and emotions

It is a continual onslaught and impossible to avoid completely. This creates a toxic load that our bodies have a hard time managing. Our digestion can become compromised leading to inflammation. Our immune system, which is primarily in our gut, is weakened as the microbiome is challenged. Our detoxification … Read the rest

Hypnotherapy for Change!

“The mind is powerful, and you have more control than you think.”
~Scott D. Lewis

As it’s now just a bit over a month into the New Year, and as this is often the time people begin to become discouraged about their New Year’s resolutions, it seems like an appropriate time to explore hypnotherapy for change. Hypnotherapy may just be what you need to support you in making the changes you desire this year, instead of defaulting back to your familiar same mindset where change can’t occur.

Hypnotherapy is the skilled use of hypnosis to beneficially change the disempowering core beliefs and attitudes that govern our lives and keep the status quo running.

mind like an icebergUsing hypnotherapy to make changes in your overall health and well being and achieve the goals you have set up for yourself is like gardening. It allows you to access the fertile soil of your subconscious mind, where you can weed out old habits and attitudes. Once you’ve weeded out the old non serving habits and attitudes, you can then plant the new seeds of thoughts and behaviors which support your desired goals. Now the subconscious mind uses these new thoughts and behaviors as its focus. This … Read the rest

The Empowerment Expedition

“It is true to say that the secret of a winning formula is
the ability to accept that there is a vast area of unexploited potential
beyond what you currently perceive to be your maximum.”

~Steve Backley

It was the summer of 2002, in the midst of an extremely challenging time in my life, when I found myself standing in front of that clichéd little sign on my refrigerator, yellowed by the years, which read “When one door closes, another opens”.

I remember thinking how easy it was to champion that overused Alexander Graham Bell quote when all was going well and yet now that life’s circumstances took me in an unforeseen direction, where all aspects of familiarity and perceived safety were challenged, it was a very different story. I read and re-read it, looking for resonance, courage and hope.

Just a few months earlier, much to my shock, I was downsized out of a job that held a large part of my identity and it shook me to my core. As a life-long devotee of positive psychology and always steeped in personal development, I found myself disoriented and in the grips of my negative assumptions and … Read the rest

Sound Healing: Aligning With Your Personal Symphony

“Sound is the medicine of the future.”
~Edgar Cayce

Sound has been utilized in various cultures for thousands of years as a tool for healing. Whether through the use of mantras as with the Hindis, the Icaros (medicine melodies) of various Indigenous peoples from Central and South America, or Pythagoras’ use of interval and frequency, these various techniques all have the same intention: to move us from a place of imbalance to a place of balance.

The World is Sound!

The Ancient Mystery Schools of Greece, Rome, Egypt, Tibet and India as well as the First People’s shamans all had great knowledge of the power of sound. Sound was understood as the primary creative force in the universe. The ancients knew what modern physicists are now finally understanding; that everything is in a state of vibration, and everything is energy. “The world is Sound!” proclaimed the ancient mystics and indeed it seems to be so.
I first came to Sound Healing as a young, reluctant healer 26 years ago. One day as I was working with a patient, my spirit guides insisted that I put an “O” sound into my patient. To say I was shocked is putting it mildly.… Read the rest

Effecting Change With This Month’s Lunar Cycle

“My mantra for this time, is ‘one box at a time’ It will all
be accomplished in its own good time.”

~Susan Scofield

Much has been said about the Super Moon, Blood Moon of Sept 27, 2015. Super Moon, Blood Moon.  Super epithets describing a fairly normal cosmic occurrence.  What we do know for certain is that this a total lunar eclipse.

The Sun is currently in the early degrees of Libra, the sign of relationships, which puts the Moon in the opposite sign of Aries, the sign of self. This means that the issues involved are self vs others.

Eclipses are crisis points, meaning stuff happens, things shift, long-term situations that have been awaiting change, do just that. A tipping point, the fulcrum, or hinge upon which life takes a turn. Full moons release energy that has been stored up for a month, or in the case of an eclipse, six months or more.

In astrology, the Moon represents our past, our history, our reaction to stress, our habits and routines. The Moon’s role is to maintain homeostasis throughout both our physical and emotional body, and it does this through continually repeating patterns that have worked in the past. … Read the rest
