What is EFT and How Does it Work?

Along time ago, after a severe traumatic event, I began suffering from panic attacks and developed severe, chronic anxiety. The side effects included averaging 2-3 hours of sleep a night, becoming destructively low functioning in my work life and having rapid heartbeats and stomach pains become the replacement for my morning alarm clock.

Thus began my journey to find a way to calm my nervous system down and get back into the driver’s seat of my life. This journey took me over 10 years. Against the wishes of therapists and physicians, I refused to start taking anti-anxiety meds, sleeping pills or anti-depressants. Instead, I tried almost every alternative therapy that I knew of. I wanted to walk through the fire to get to the other side instead of pretending the fire inside me wasn’t there.

Walking Your Blues Away – Book Review

walking-your-blues-awayThom Hartmann’s book, Walking Your Blues Away: How to Heal the Mind and Create Emotional Well-Being, is one of those “Ah-ha” books. It is a well-written, concisely worded, 112 pages worth of information that might just get you off the sofa, into your shoes and out the door for some walking therapy.

Thom explains in this book, in layman’s terms, “how the natural and rhythmic left-right-left-right process of walking, while performing a simple mental exercise” provides emotional and intellectual healing from mental distress and trauma.

He presents a thorough outline of the historical foundation of practices that were the precursor to the development of modern eye-motion therapies such as NeuroLinguistic Programming (NLP), Eye Motion Desensitization and Reintegration (EMDR), Emotional Freedom Technique and Thought Field Therapy.

Bingo! This book provides validation for one of the practices in my own, personal transformation processes. Having experienced the benefits of EMDR therapy, I can attest to the effectiveness of side-to-side brain reprogramming. And, as shared elsewhere on this website, I’m pretty of hooked on walking.
